About Scouts

The Scout Association

Scouting is a worldwide voluntary movement for young people. The Scout Movement was founded in 1907 by Lord Robert Baden-Powell. In the United Kingdom, the youth membership of boys & girls, aged between six and eighteen years is over 500,000, supported by 120,000 adults. The Movement now has over 26 million members worldwide, Scouting in over 200 countries. With its sister movement, Girlguiding UK, Scouting represents the largest youth organisation in the World.

All adults in Scouting work to fulfill the Aim of the Association.

Young People First Yellow Card is given to all leaders.
It consists of a Code of Behaviour for adults involved in Scouting.

Scouting is run by people who freely give up their time to organise weekly activities for young people. In addition to Leaders, there are Skills Instructors, Helpers, Administrators, Committee Members, Fundraisers and so on. All adults in the movement undergo training depending on their role in the Movement.
